What Customers Say About Iron Man Vol. 1: Extremis:

The characters are well developed and the bad guy seems like a genuine threat to this man in the armored suit. I was originally interested in this title because of Warren Ellis, but this is just an amazing comic all around. This is also the comic that showed me that Adi Granov is such a beautiful artist and makes me wish that he would do more comic work. If you love comics this is one to pick up and take a look at. If not for the story than the art alone is well worth the cost.

The villain was without merit and there were out of left field scenes that made no sense. Warren Ellis has really thrilled me before but this Iron Man tale had a few good ideas but fell so short. Plot holes were running rampant. Or maybe they would have made sense had the art come from a human's hand as opposed to a computer. Overall, a disappointment.

He amazingly relates the psychedelic chemical to the story and he deserves huge props for that alone. But beyond all that, my favorite part of the book is the way Warren seamlessly introduces thousands of readers to DMT.

I really, really dug this book. Warren Ellis is consistently surprising as of recently and this is no exception.

I went back and bought this book to understand how Iron Man got his fancy new powers (which I think he actually just lost during Secret Invasion, but anyway). There are few artists who can pull off interiors to the degree Adi can, and whats more interesting is that he was commissioned to design the suit for the movie.

The story really brings iron man into the new age in terms of both character and powers. Also, the art is killer.

Man was that a shocker. I have got to meet this guy.

Ellis sets up a good conflict for Tony Stark by highlighting the clash between his world-saving superhero persona and the fact his wealth and company are built on arms sales. This volume covers a relaunch of Iron Man a few years ago so it has to cover some basics. It's been brought up before but this is one of the most mature and nuanced jobs I have seen. The book as a whole has a somewhat thin plot. It retells his origin (now set in East Timor in the 90s rather than Vietnam in the 60s), sets up a new foe and upgrades the armor for a new millennium. All of this is done with a clever script by Warren Ellis and fantastic art by Adi Granov. There are a few too many pages of Tony Stark talking about his cell phone, too few of Iron Man, but on the whole it's a strong Iron Man story and a great introduction to the character.Unfortunately this book cam just before an endless series of world-shaking crossovers (Civil War, World War Hulk, Secret Invasion and who knows what else) caught Iron Man in a constant stream of changes. So it is one of the last chances to see Iron Man in his `iconic' superhero form.

"Iron Man: Extremis" introduces you to Tony Stark and explains Iron Man's roots, that alone is reason enough to get this. There isn't much story here but the art is amazing and the presentation of the birth of Tony Stark/Iron Man makes this a must have.
